Wedding preparations

Just one week to go and I’ll be a married woman. We had about three months to prepare for our big day. Most people take up a year to plan a wedding. So how did we do this and how did it go?

Our plan was to have a very small wedding, but after looking at the guests we wanted to invite the wedding got a big bigger. It’s still not a huge wedding and pretty small, but I guess it also depends on who you ask. My soon to be husband is Turkish and a Turkish wedding usually starts with 300 guests and can be double or triple the amount of people.

We decided to do ours a lot smaller since that is simply our preference and we have other big things to prepare for .. like our baby boy! So how did all of the preparations go and did we finish? Well we got engaged in the middle of October en started planning the wedding in November. We then decided on the date and found a location quickly after.

The wedding venue is an old farm and has a rustic feel to it. I like a bohemian style and my sweet fiancé loved it too, so that was settled quickly. The venue also does the catering and we can both have the ceremony there and the party at night. They would even help out with the decorations and recommended a place for the wedding cake.

We might be very “simple” in the way that we immediately liked all choices presented to us, but it just made it a lot easier. We made small alterations to the dinner choices, but that was about it. Something that seemed more challenging was to find a wedding dress. Since I’m now more than 6 months pregnant I had to find one that would fit my growing belly.

When my first pick of the dress (I found it online) wasn’t in stock I had to look for another one. The second pick was even better and fits perfectly. I tried it on again yesterday and it stills fits the way it should. My shoes were given to me from long time friends of my mom (they’re like family honestly) and guess what!? The shoes carry my names! I got two different pairs and what are the odds of all the names in the world that these have mine.

So as you can probably tell planning and arranging everything went quite smoothly. We were also very lucky to receive help from friends and family. My fathers wife helped with the organisation and pointed out a lot of things that we wouldn’t have thought about. One of my best friends is helping me with my hair for the big day and one of my other best friends together with my mom helped to make the wedding favours for the guests.

Another huge thing and something very special is that my grandfathers jazz band will be taking care of the music. Yes, you are reading it correctly. My grandfather who is almost 81 years old is a drummer in a jazz band. Looking at everything we’ve done and that will happen it will definitely be a day we’ll always remember. And of course the most important part of all is that I’ll get to marry my best friend and the love of my life.
